Key assignment:

1.1         Review key documents

The trainers will review key documents which set out the scope and functioning of SSUs. This includes the SSU evaluation report 2015, the SSU revised guidelines, and the process report of the National Workshop on Review and Future Direction of SSUs held in August 2015.

1.2         Training content and delivery

The training will be practical and will emphasize the skills to be used while providing psychosocial support to the target group. This will include effective communication skills (interviewing, listening, observation, etc.), empathy, and non-judgmental behavior. A portion of the training will be focused on helping the facilitators to manage their own stress, and learn self-care methods to prevent themselves from burnout and negative impact on their own health.

Adult learning methodology will be applied for delivering the training content. A participatory approach will be taken including role play, group work, and peer learning methods to encourage a better understanding of the content and topics.

Facilitators and staff from different hospitals will have their skill of providing psychosocial support to target group patients enhanced. Training participants will be drawn from staff who are directly involved with poor and ultra-poor patients, helpless patients, patients with disabilities, senior citizens, and survivors of gender-based violence. The course will be tailored to the needs of participants. Basic skills and tips will include basic communication and listening skills, self-care as well as coordination and networking.
