Providing Psychosocial First Aid to Teachers | Nepal School Safety Program – NSSP – 2020

Key activities:

  1. Capacity building on Psychological First Aid (PFA) training for the teachers: Psychological first aid (PFA) is a method of helping people in distress so that they feel calm and supported to cope better with their challenges. It involves paying attention to reactions, active listening and, if needed, practical assistance, such as problem-solving, help to access basic needs, or referring to further options for assistance. PFA helps normalize worry and other emotions.
  2. Orientation to head teacher on a basic overview of psychosocial from a management perspective: on basic management-related issues for basic psychosocial support. They will be sensitized to the psychosocial concept, logistic management at school to ensure the safety of students, appropriate coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders such as parents, local government, teachers, and students to facilitate a friendly environment for children.

Conduct psychosocial assessment and provide psychosocial counseling: A psychologist from TPO Nepal will conduct an assessment and provide essential psychosocial counseling to the cases identified and referred by trained teachers. The support will be provided through the helpline 16600102005 and other referral points of TPO.
